Day-by-Day Itinerary
Arrive at Bandaranaike International Airport and meet your tour leader. Take a brief stroll through Negombo's famous fish market and colourful Dutch canal town. Then drive inland to Dambulla and visit the magnificent Golden Cave Temple — five ancient cave sanctuaries housing over 150 gilded Buddha statues and stunning 2,000-year-old murals (UNESCO). Check in to your hotel near Sigiriya with a welcome dinner.
Climb the legendary Sigiriya Lion Rock (480m) and watch the sunset paint the surrounding plains gold from the summit — one of Sri Lanka's most iconic experiences. In the afternoon, visit a traditional cultural village: enjoy a scenic bullock cart ride through paddy fields, join a cooking demonstration with a local family, and savour a home-cooked Sri Lankan dinner around the fire.
Head to Minneriya National Park for an early morning jeep safari — famous for "The Gathering", one of Asia's greatest wildlife spectacles where hundreds of wild elephants congregate around the ancient reservoir. Drive on to Kandy and enjoy an afternoon at the sacred Temple of the Tooth Relic. In the evening, attend a spectacular Kandyan cultural show featuring traditional drumming, fire-walking, and dance.
Explore Kandy's highlights — the Royal Botanical Gardens at Peradeniya, the scenic lakeside promenade, and the bustling gem museum. Visit a traditional spice garden and enjoy a herbal tea tasting. In the afternoon, take a catamaran boat ride on Kandy Lake and join a hands-on Sri Lankan cooking demonstration — learning to prepare authentic local dishes from scratch.
Drive through the emerald highlands to a working tea factory in Nuwara Eliya — tour the facility, learn the process from leaf to cup, and enjoy a fresh Ceylon Tea tasting. Board the iconic scenic mountain train towards Ella — one of the world's most beautiful rail journeys. Mist drifts through terraced tea hillsides and waterfalls cascade past your open window. Arrive in charming Ella village as the sun sets over the valley.
Rise early to trek Mini Adam's Peak — a relatively easy hike rewarded with sweeping 360° panoramic views of Ella Gap and the valley below. Visit the iconic Nine Arch Bridge and Ravana Falls — a striking 25-metre cascade steeped in local mythology. Drive south to Yala National Park and check in to your resort near the park entrance in anticipation of tomorrow's safari.
Embark on a thrilling morning jeep safari in Yala National Park — home to the world's highest density of leopards, as well as elephants, sloth bears, crocodiles, and over 200 bird species. After the safari, drive west along the scenic coast to Mirissa. Spend the afternoon relaxing on this beautiful crescent bay. In the evening, enjoy a fresh seafood dinner by the ocean as you prepare for tomorrow's whale watching at dawn.
Rise before dawn for an early morning whale watching boat trip from Mirissa — one of the world's premier spots for blue whales and spinner dolphins. Return for a coastal breakfast, then head to Galle Fort for a guided walking tour of the UNESCO-listed Dutch colonial fortification. Visit a sea turtle hatchery conservation project before continuing to the idyllic beach resort town of Bentota for a peaceful evening on the coast.
Enjoy a leisurely morning on Bentota's golden beach before heading north to Colombo. Take a comprehensive city tour covering the Gangaramaya Temple, Pettah bazaar, the historic Fort district, and the breezy Galle Face Green waterfront promenade. Enjoy a farewell lunch at a local restaurant before your tour leader transfers you to Bandaranaike International Airport for your departure flight.
