Day-by-Day Itinerary
Arrive at Bandaranaike International Airport and meet your personal chauffeur guide. Transfer to a comfortable hotel in Negombo. Take a relaxed evening walk along the Dutch Canal, explore the colourful fish market, and enjoy a welcome dinner by the beach. Rest and recover for the adventure ahead.
Drive north to Anuradhapura — Sri Lanka's first ancient capital and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Explore the sacred Sri Maha Bodhi tree (the oldest recorded tree in history, planted in 288 BC), the magnificent Ruwanwelisaya Stupa, and the towering Jetavanaramaya — once the third tallest structure in the ancient world. Your guide brings 2,500 years of history vividly to life. Overnight in Anuradhapura.
Visit the Golden Cave Temple of Dambulla — five ancient sanctuaries housing over 150 gilded Buddha statues and breathtaking 2,000-year-old murals (UNESCO). In the afternoon, explore a traditional Sri Lankan village by tuk-tuk and on foot: see paddy farming, visit a local home, try toddy tapping, and enjoy a cooking demonstration with a freshly prepared village meal. Check in near Sigiriya.
Climb the legendary Sigiriya Lion Rock (UNESCO) at sunrise — a 5th-century royal citadel perched atop a 200-metre granite column, adorned with iconic frescoes and the famous Mirror Wall. After descending, drive through beautiful countryside to Kandy. In the evening, attend a vibrant Kandyan cultural performance — traditional drumming, fire-walking, and acrobatic dance.
Spend a full day exploring Kandy: visit the sacred Temple of the Tooth Relic — one of Buddhism's holiest shrines — and stroll through the stunning Royal Botanical Gardens at Peradeniya, home to 4,000+ plant species. Browse a gem museum and traditional arts & crafts market. Walk the peaceful Kandy Lake promenade and soak in the city's royal atmosphere.
Drive through emerald highlands to Nuwara Eliya — the heart of Ceylon Tea country at 1,868m above sea level. Tour a working tea factory, learn the production process, and enjoy a fresh tasting. Board the legendary scenic mountain train towards Ella — one of the world's most beautiful rail journeys, winding through misty hills, waterfalls, and terraced tea estates. Arrive in charming Ella as evening falls.
Hike to Little Adam's Peak at sunrise for sweeping views of the Ella Gap and surrounding valley. Visit the iconic Nine Arch Bridge — a stunning colonial viaduct framed by lush tea bushes — and Ravana Falls. Drive south to Yala National Park, home to the world's highest density of leopards. Enjoy a thrilling afternoon jeep safari encountering leopards, elephants, sloth bears, crocodiles, and exotic birds. Overnight in Tissamaharama.
Drive along the scenic southern coast. Stop at Mirissa's beautiful crescent beach for a swim and fresh coconut. Continue to Hikkaduwa — famous for its vibrant coral reef and sea turtles — for optional snorkelling (gear available). Enjoy a leisurely evening stroll along the beach strip with its lively restaurants and sea-facing cafés. Overnight in Hikkaduwa or Bentota.
Visit the magnificent Galle Fort — a UNESCO-listed 17th-century Dutch colonial fortification. Walk the ancient ramparts at golden hour, explore boutique lanes, and learn about the fort's layered history. Visit a sea turtle conservation hatchery nearby. Continue to the tranquil beach resort town of Bentota on the west coast for a relaxed afternoon by the lagoon and Indian Ocean. Enjoy a farewell dinner at a beachside restaurant.
Enjoy a final morning swim on Bentota beach before heading north to Sri Lanka's vibrant capital, Colombo. Take a guided city tour: the Gangaramaya Temple, bustling Pettah bazaar, the colonial Fort district, and the breezy Galle Face Green promenade. Enjoy a farewell lunch at a local restaurant. Transfer to Bandaranaike International Airport for your departure flight, carrying memories of an unforgettable 10-day island journey.
