Day-by-Day Itinerary
Arrive at Bandaranaike International Airport in Negombo and meet your tour leader. Take a brief orientation walk through Negombo's colourful fish market and Dutch canal before heading inland. Visit the Golden Temple of Dambulla — a UNESCO World Heritage Site featuring five ancient cave sanctuaries with over 150 gilded Buddha statues and vibrant murals. Check in to your hotel near Sigiriya.
Begin the day with a sunrise climb of Sigiriya Lion Rock (480m) — one of Asia's most iconic ancient citadels, with 5th-century frescoes and breathtaking panoramic views from the summit. In the afternoon, immerse yourself in authentic village life: join a local family for a traditional cooking demonstration, enjoy a home-cooked Sri Lankan lunch, and explore the paddy fields and daily rhythms of rural island life.
Drive through lush countryside, stopping at a traditional spice garden where expert guides walk you through cinnamon, cardamom, pepper, and dozens of other herbs and plants used in Ayurvedic medicine. Continue to Kandy, Sri Lanka's cultural capital. In the evening, attend a captivating Kandyan cultural dance performance — a vibrant showcase of traditional drumming, fire-walking, and acrobatic dance.
Visit the sacred Temple of the Tooth Relic — one of the most revered Buddhist pilgrimage sites in the world. Explore the beautiful Royal Botanical Gardens at Peradeniya, stroll along the peaceful Kandy Lake, and browse the local gem museum and arts & crafts market. Your tour leader shares stories of Kandy's royal history and the island's complex colonial past over a group dinner.
Drive through the breathtaking highlands to a working tea factory in Nuwara Eliya — the heart of Ceylon Tea country. Tour the factory, watch each stage of production, and enjoy a tasting of freshly brewed tea. Board the legendary scenic mountain train towards Ella — widely regarded as one of the world's most beautiful rail journeys. Watch mist drift through emerald hillsides from the open carriage windows as you glide past waterfalls and valleys.
Start with a sunrise hike to Little Adam's Peak for sweeping views of the surrounding valley. Visit the famous Nine Arch Bridge — a stunning colonial-era viaduct framed by tea bushes. Then drive south through changing landscape to Yala National Park, Sri Lanka's most visited wildlife reserve. Embark on a thrilling afternoon jeep safari to encounter leopards, elephants, crocodiles, sloth bears, and over 200 species of exotic birds. Overnight in Tissamaharama.
Drive along the scenic southern coastline with its turquoise bays and coconut-lined shores. Spend the morning relaxing on one of Sri Lanka's beautiful southern beaches. In the afternoon, explore the magnificent Galle Fort — a UNESCO-listed 17th-century Dutch colonial fortification packed with boutique cafés, galleries, and history. Your tour leader leads a guided walk through the fort's cobbled lanes and ancient ramparts at golden hour.
Head north along the coast to Colombo — Sri Lanka's vibrant capital.
